Personal Log, Stardate 40883.7

Jaya was on the holodeck, doing a run in some mountainous terrain in Greece. Or was it Italy? It didn’t matter, she was trying to get her mind off from the current mission. Despite her best efforts, however, she couldn’t help but think about their situation.
“Computer, begin personal log.”
She heard the chime of the computer indicating that it had accepted her command.
“Personal log, stardate 40883.7“
She paused for a moment as she thought about what to say. She rounded a corner and got a view of the sea beside her as she ran. Turning back to the path and focusing, she began.
“We’ve just picked up some Romulan guests. We’re treating them now under the watchful eyes and disrupters of another Romulan ship. Along with that, there’s a Romulan ship orbiting Farius. So suffice to say, we have opened a Pandora’s box by investigating this disabled ship and discovered Romulans crawling out of every Jeffries tube and bulkhead this side of Vulcan.”
She slowed down as she ran out of breath from running and talking, now simply walking the path.
“Computer, create a glass of water for me.”
Right beside her on the road a glass of water materialized. She took a long sip of the cold water, which she desperately needed. Once finished, however, she tossed the glass behind her and let it shatter on the road. Continuing her journey at her much slower pace, she resumed her log.
“It seems like 2363 decided to be the Year of the Romulan. Lucky us. We left one paranoidal and totalitarian regime behind on Pirakta and the universe decided to deliver us one better: a paranoidal, totalitarian, and arrogant regime.”
She paused for a moment.
“I take that back. They’re both arrogant. Regardless, this doctor seems to have no concept of what self evaluation is. At no point during our conversation did he even comment on the fact that his reckless experiment has eliminated years of the lives of his crew. In the same breath as admitting that he had severely harmed his crew, he tells us that we are barbarians with no idea what we are dealing with. Maybe one day he’ll gain some humility.”
She turned towards the sea and smiled as she watched some of the sea life make its way to the surface. She always forgot how detailed and realistic holodecks could be. They truly were a modern marvel.
“Beneath all that arrogance and prejudice, I will admit that there is some innate intelligence. If he tempered it with more reason and caution, he might be one of the great scientists of Romulus. As it is, he had to be rescued by Starfleet. Maybe this will give him an appreciation for Starfleet medicine.”
She scoffed. As if. Never going to change, him. Well, at least they’d soon be back on their way to Farius and can fix this whole situation before being back to what she signed up for: exploration.
“Computer, end program and end log.”
