Personal Log

With the transfer of Grenkat from the ship and with Lt. Com. Santori coming aboard, it would seem like the end of the Pirakta mission is at hand. It was a rather somber, emotional affair, Grenkat’s departure from the Boston, but of course as a newcomer I felt nothing when he left.

Of greater concern to me, is the current situation of the Security Department. After the mission a Security de-brief was conducted with the Captain, Lt.s Kilrai, Church, Ensign T’Rena and I. It was…somewhat more combative then I would have expected, of particular concern during the meeting was Ensign’s T’Rena disobeying of a direct order from Lt. Kilrai during the tense standoff and negotiations on Pirakta, Lt. Church backed T’Rena’s decision to disobey the order to the hilt, in fact very forcefully so. I was neutral in my comments about T’Rena’s actions, most likely too much, pointing out that Lt. Church’s last command was to protect the Captain while there was no denying that T’Rena willfully disobeyed a direct order from a superior officer, the one to stand down by Lt. Kilrai. Of course, Ensign T’Rena tried to justify her actions using her Vulcan logic but it was a reach.

What I found concerning was Lt. Church’s verbal sparring with Lt. Kilrai, an officer that only earned my respect over the course of the mission through her quick thinking and actions in trying to salvage the mess that we found ourselves in. In short, Church was a bit more abrasive then the situation called for in his support of T’Rena’s actions and in his comments about Lt. Kilrai. In fact it would seem that their professional relationship got worse when they left the meeting to have a personal conversation between the two, to order to try and clear the air between them. Hopefully with the formal chain of command settled with Lt. Church being appointed Chief of Security and training exercises placing an emphasis on command structure will make sure that something like this does not happen again. It was also brought up during the meeting that the Assistant Chief of Security position is now vacant and it would seem that T’Rena and I are in the running for the position. T’Rena is far more familiar with the Boston’s operations and crew then I am so I don’t know if I really have a shot at the slot.

*Kyr sighs and leans back in his chair, staring up at the ceiling*

An unresolved issue that I foresee that may become a problem is Ensign Liarro. She is very experienced in the field, very good but her judgement needs a lot of work, her walking up to the standoff after we left the cave without receiving any orders to do so was a very rash decision that almost blew up the entire situation. Along with being passed over for both Chief and Assistant Chief of Security in spite of her talents could breed a major problem, I don’t envy those that are going to have to deal with her…
