First day back from 3rd shift

Third shift was nice and quiet.... for the most part. Lots of time to work on projects the other shifts did not have time for. It was nice, however it did not let me challenge myself in an emergency situation... Not that I enjoy emergencies. When a spot opened up on my original shift, I jumped at the opportunity.

First day back and we lose contact with our away team, who were touring a reeducation center on the Piraktan homeworld. We attempted to use the deflector array to punch a hole into the shielding of the facility to try and get a transporter lock on our away team. This did not go completely to plan. I was sent to Transporter room to beam them away as soon as I get a lock. After punching through, their com badges were able to be located, but I was not able to establish a lock for transport. We then hit the shields harder to get the transport beam through, all the while a Cardassian ship held position over the facility and beamed troops down to the surface. As the shield was hit with the more powerful deflector pulse, the away team went deeper into the facility and we lost contact completely. My heart was racing. At the time, I had thought we lost them. I continued to monitor for them, determined to get our people back home. Suddenly I noticed that the shield modulation was becoming erratic and immediately reported this to the bridge. As soon as I told the bridge, The shield dropped and I got a lock on the entire team.

The away team was back. I was so relieved until I noticed the injuries. I let the bridge know they were onboard, but very much in need of medical assistance. I decided to help the Doc in sickbay as he was very understaffed for the amount of injuries. Some pretty small injuries, but quite a few pretty bad shrapnel injuries. They must have destroyed the core to drop the shield. As I do this log, I think... Had I been any later and there would not have been much of the away team left. I cannot think this way however. I got them in time and they are all well now.... That is all that matters.

I heard later that the Cardassian ship self destructed as the away team was beamed aboard. Not sure why they would do that, but hey.... one less Cardassian ship is ok in my book...
