Dear Mom,

Things have been pretty crazy on the Boston, I’m not sure how much I should say, for security’s sake, but I’ve already been working hard. Only a couple weeks after I came aboard I found myself and some other engineers working through the night on something important for our current mission, and I feel like I was able to help a lot. It’s around Christmas, that human holiday Omi obsesses over, but I’m not sure how many will celebrate it on the Boston. I made one of my superiors a model proton pack, it’s from an ancient earth media she likes a lot, because I think she was a little disappointed that something else we made didn’t look like it, or do the right stuff.
I got to stand on the bridge! It was pretty scary, honestly, I was there once helping with a probe mission, then had to run up later to try and make a repair to a damaged console, though a really scary Vulcan was using it and I had to wait to fix it.
Overall I’m settling in well enough, it’s pretty stressful and I don’t always get to sleep long enough, but Dad’s Raktajino has been helping… Oh, that reminds me, next time we’re all able to meet up, I need him to bring more Raktajino supplies. I wonder if we meet any Klingons if we’ll be able to work out a trade?
I hope all is well on the Kyushu, give my best to everyone there please. I think one of my classmates were assigned there, Ensign Liota? If so, she loves milchreis, just in case she ever needs a pick-me-up. She can get a bit depressed when she can't surf, like me, so take care of her please.

Dear Dad,
I know you’re wondering already, yes, I wrote Mom’s letter first like you said. Things have been busy on the Boston, so I’ve not had the chance to try out all the recipes you sent with me. I’ve made some, but there’s actually someone here who knows how to make heart of targ! Of course the ingredients are replicated, but it still tasted great, and they paired it with something called black pudding? Just in case you’re looking for a new recipe for the restaurant.
You can tell Omi I’ve already been putting my training to good use, looks like the Federation does occasionally need weapons designed, haha. I probably shouldn’t say more until everything calms down more, but don’t worry, I’m ok. The Raktajino you sent with me has been a lifesaver, I even offered some to the others when we were working through the night, though I think they prefer coffee.
How are things on Earth? I hope Mr. Rotijenji’s back is feeling better, and how’s the situation with your ingredients? I know it can be hard for the colony to get fresh food all the way to Earth. I should get back to what I was doing, my shift went a bit long and I need to get some sleep. Don’t worry, I remember what you said to do if I ever meet a Gorn. Be nice, and ask for recipes.
