My First day, entering the bridge

Stardate:40860.3 Personal Log.

I had been on the ship for a few days but luckily I had the opportunity to take a little time for myself before I had to report for duty. The ship seems rather astonishing to be frank.

It Is Massive.

I don’t know what else to say.

-Pauses for a moment to reflect-

I have to say though, the people here know what they are doing. That is for certain. I walk the corridors and enter the departments just to take note on how they work but more importantly, how I can fit in here.

The Academy does not do this place justice. All the lectures, simulations and training did not prepare me for my first time walking on the bridge.

Admittedly, I was scared beyond belief as the turbolift door opened to reveal the literal awe inspiring sight before me. That Andorian was the first person I saw. If they are trying to welcome people, he shouldn’t be standing where he was.

Now though, I laugh at that ideal.

The second thing I took note on was the hum, it was, well, softer than the rest of the ship and even though people were tending to their duties, it was quiet. You know when you walk into a promenade on a station? There is so much noise that it almost deafens you and everything seems to merge into one loud white noise. The busy bridge should have sounded like that with all the happenings, but it didn’t.

I had to take a deep breath and even though I should have gone to the medbay due to the amount of sweating I was doing, I moved forward towards the Commander.

She was amazing. I could literally feel her demeanor. Such ability. Respect. Command.

I honestly felt like I was going to throw up right there and then but when she asked me to approach. I kind of felt at ease. Well, as at ease as I could have been I suppose.

The Commander was nice. I actually cannot recall the questions she asked me but they were good.

-A pause to laugh at himself was offered-

But. There was that chance to watch and before I could ask anymore questions the alarms went off. I was oh my goodness! I actually took an inventory of my actions hoping that I hadn’t set the alarms off. Thankfully, well, it wasn’t me.

It was a distress call. An Andorian ship.

The bridge was a well tuned machine and immediately went into action. The Captain at this point arrived and I hope to all that is good that I didn’t use my outdoor voice. He looked a lot older than I expected.

-A chuckle was there now-

But that man had an aura of command about him and rightfully so, he took it.

It turned out that the Andorian vessel had been hit by a static mine. Like the ones the Carrdassians used. Scary crap, that is for sure. Anyways, The Captain without hesitation took it upon himself to push the engines and get there as fast as we could.

A noble feature you could say.

The teams were set up and bam! The rescue parties were activated.

I have to admit though, watching all this was incredible and I am so pleased to have been assigned here for my cruise.

That vulcan lady scared me to literal death after the Captain asked me if I wanted to help and frankly so, I don’t recall getting up to the consol. I had to have been transported or something.

In the end, I took the station and it felt good. So very good. They were just like the training simulations that I put on and it was pretty easy to read the readouts. I did a few scans and came up with an idea on how to disable the mines. The Static triggers are like the pressure valves on a freighter intake. The heat and pressure changes of the phasers being inverted and spread wide and thin could have helped. Unfortunately it wasn’t acknowledged.

The crew and the captain know better of course. I don’t have the experience beneath me yet. That'll change. I don’t think the Vulcan likes me much because when the Captain assigned me to the team to figure all this out, she didn’t seem happy. Well, not that I could actually tell. She is Vulcan after all.

-Another chuckle forms-

Nonetheless. I will report to the team and I hope I can impress them. If my nerves don’t interfere that is.

End log.
