As most Trills, he is extremely goal oriented and not only excels in the tasks before him, he tends to make new standards. Starfleet was the only option in his mind and with the mental state of pushing himself to the limits, he has become quite good at most if not all that he does. Obviously the ideal of becoming Join has been a goal and because of that he has applied to the Symbiosis Commission to be tested. His push in Starfleet and most areas in his life add to that.
