I remember, while at the Academy, my room mates gathering together and watching 'movies', something that I had never conceived of until I encountered Humans. Moving pictures upon a screen or bulkhead that tell a story purely for entertainment, mostly fictional. Not something you would see on Aislyni Tuan. But, I digress...
These 'movies' happened 52 times every cycle, always at the 20th hour of Earths rotation, rarely missed or intervened. The subject matter in this entertainment varied from stories that contained much violence and unbelievable abilities of people wielding swords made of light to lengthy litanies of Human mating practices to ancient Earth vehicles racing across unfettered terrain to moving drawings called 'cartoons' that professed even stranger abilities only the imagination could create. One such subject I remember was from a genre called 'westerns' where Humans ride domesticated animals that raced a large armored vehicle bound by the path of steel rails anchored into the ground called a train, to which the Humans riding domesticated animals would leap from their perfectly fine mount to attempt to board this 'train' for various reasons, be it out of greed or justice or any number of honorable or dishonorable acts.
As insane as it sounds, and I know if Sophia or Jack or even Shepard were to hear of this, they'd be jealous. I jumped from a perfectly good vehicle onto a moving armored train for an honorable cause, to help rescue Commander Jaya from the unnecessary and undesired detention she suffered, and to redeem myself for my failure.
The excursion was successful, there was a minor firefight, alarms were triggered purposefully, detainees were released, and Commander Jaya returned to her rightful place on board the U.S.S. Boston with information to rescue yet another that was lost before my arrival. I can smile with purpose and sing with my hearts again.
