The Boston's helmsman let out a soft sigh as he had been sitting on the back deck of the apartment overlooking Valles Marineris. A PADD was next to him on the couch and Joe looked down at the sleeping Jack Harper in his arms.
"I know that part of me would love to have this small family of mine stay permanantly on the Boston. But deep down, the logical and safer choice is for them to remain here on Mars." Joe glanced forward as he looked at the martian sky.
"If Boston were given assignments around the core worlds then yes I'd take the chance. Out there...beyond the boarder, exploring the unknown as we always do." He chuckled softly. 'Well...it ain't the best environment to raise a kid."
He stood up and gently set Jack down in the Starfleet themed bassinet cradle then leaned back on the couch again.
"Of course T'Pora would be fine with it given she's got a bit of experience on Starfleet ships. It's me that I'd be worried about. Constantly thinking about her and Jack when I'm at the helm. That would really effect me, especially during a combat situation. I could always transfer to a vessel that was closer to home...but hell where's the fun in that?"
Joe sighed heavily and rubbed the back of his neck. "When I surprised T'Pora at the Martian Embassy I was reminded that I'd always have someone to come home to whenever the Boston returned to the core. The only downside to the long distancing...is separation anxiety. However, I think now that I'm here on Mars, that anxiety has gone away. Hopefully it'll stay gone when Boston departs."
The helmsman paused as he heard Jack coo then giggle. Joe perked an eyebrow and leaned over towards the cradle to see the child grabbing its toes. Joe smiled and chuckled. "Well, that nap didn't last long eh kiddo?" The child giggled again and Joe leaned back with a sigh.
He glanced at the PADD and furrowed his brow. "Hmm, letting the rest of the crew see you might be fun. I think you'll enjoy all the attention." Joe laughed as the child continued to play with its feet.
*He then let out a soft sigh. "Computer...end log."
