Service Uniform, Class A

Starfleet's Service Uniform is the preferred uniform variant for use in office-type environments. For this reason it is a favored uniform for personnel aboard flagships and starbases safely within Federation territory, as well as permanent planetside and orbital installations such as Starfleet Command, Starfleet Academy (non-cadets), Earth Spacedock, and Utopia Planetia. On most vessels on deep space assignments, this uniform is only used when in a safe sector of space. Due to the rapid and unpredictable pace of space exploration, this uniform is sometimes worn on away missions, but Starfleet prefers personnel to use the appropriately titled Working Uniform for this task.

The uniform consists of a high formal style collared tunic, with discreetly belted trousers in black. Divisional colors are prominently displayed across the tunic, and on piping along the collar's upper seam. An optional variant of the uniform is permitted for both male and female personnel that replaces the trousers with a black formal style skirt paired with calf height boots. Rank pips are worn on the right collar, and combadge on the left breast of the tunic.
