Personality & Traits

General Overview Despite his naturally intense expression, Tristan is quite personable, albeit equally reserved. He tends to go out of his way to not come off as an annoyance or burden to anyone, especially to his crewmates. Tristan is pretty patient with people, and slow to anger, but he never forgets. He's maintained his inquisitive streak from childhood, and is always keen to learn something of just about anything.
Strengths & Weaknesses Tristan is quite versatile, but has yet to truly master anything. Given enough time in a singular focus however, and his potential should begin to truly shine. He tends to try and do too much with too little regardless, and needs to be held back in some cases. Once in a blue moon, this overextending may very well churn out a gem, but more often than not just results in him tripping over himself somewhere down the line. He's always willing to lend a helping hand, but never thinks to ask for help himself.
Ambitions Above everything else, he wants to make his family proud of him and his Starfleet service, and to that effect aims to have a fine career in Starfleet. But as far as short-term ambitions are concerned, he wants to go beyond the core worlds, to see what his father has spent so much of his life dedicated to seeing.
Hobbies & Interests Tristan enjoys travelling, as well as cooking, and has a soft spot for the old Earth sport of Baseball, which he got to know about through his studies of Earth History back at the Academy.

Personal History Born in the Emerald of the Pacific Northwest, to an astrophysicist of a father and a writer of a mother, Tristan was raised in a household with a father that was only around several months of the year due to his work, and a fantasizing mother who was doting to a fault. Then of course, there was his older brother, who'd always be around their mother's desk, forever interested in whatever she was jotting down. His sister wouldn't join the family until a few years later.

He had a calm childhood as the eventual middle child of the family, and was known to be a very inquisitive child, always asking so many questions, retaining everything he can. By the time he reached adolescence, his brother Zachary would be all but set to go off to Emory University, halfway across North America, in Georgia, to pursue his own future in writing.

With his father half-present and his brother gone off to college, he wound up looking out for his sister more often than not, keeping her out of trouble, protecting her when she got in it somehow anyways. He'd form his own aspirations and tendencies by this time, and despite his father working as a civilian consultant with Starfleet, whisking him away most of the time, he didn't harbour any hatred for either. If anything, it left him wanting. In the same way that his father had desired to travel amongst the stars and see the galaxy, in time, so did he.

While he did not share his father's talent in the sciences, nor his mother's creativity with the proverbial quill, he did always have a bit of a knack for working with technology and various systems. That, combined with his protective streak regarding his little sister, and him growing like a beanstalk, made for a fine prospective future in both Operations and Security. He kicked things up a few warp factors in his final pair of years in secondary school, studying more diligently for the Starfleet Academy Entrance Exam, and didn't wait long to take it and enroll once he became eligible.

He would choose Operations as his major, specializing in Starship Ops, with a pair of minors in the Tactical path of Weapons Systems and, of course, Security. This selection, while certainly broadening his horizons, would almost spread him out too thin, stressing him out over the course of the first year. Many sleepless nights and a newfound taste for raktajinos later, and his next three years were much more collected as he got himself into a rhythm. By his final year, he was comfortable enough with his schedule that he added on Survival Strategies and Earth History extension courses.

Upon graduating, he'd get his first assignment to the Starbase 47, a small and aging installation nearing 100 years of age, that had became more or less relegated to relay service. He served there for 1 year and a half, before getting transferred to the U.S.S Guyot in late 2361, a Mediterranean-class light frigate that did work as a route patroller and planetary defender. He bounced between the Operations and Security departments, a byproduct of the ship's small crew complement, along with a relatively quick crew turnover, fresh Ensigns from the Academy coming on board to cycle out those due to promotions and transfers.

By mid 2364, he requested a transfer, citing a desire for departmental consistency in his career, and was approved, but also alongside a recommendation for Lieutenant Junior Grade. Being dropped off at ESD in September of that year, he decided to take the time between assignments to catch up with friends and family on Earth, before getting his new assignment to the U.S.S. Boston the following month.
