After finding their colony now within Cardassian borders with a new peace agreement those who made it their life's work to built up a new home were forced to relocate. With the assistance of initially only U.S.S. Boston the colonists forged a path forward on a new world within Federation borders eventually adopting the name of Neo Zolaruta. Once ground was broken additional starships were dispatched to assist with both transport as well as support and manpower to develop this new world.

During multiple survey missions ahead of the final decision to relocate to this world numerous crystal structures were encountered across the planet along with a handful of native wildlife seemingly linked with them. One such species of note included avians with reduimentary telepathic talent to the degree of projecting their emotions. Further study confirmed a dependence on the crystal formations both as a means of navigation in addition to serving as a well of energy to draw upon. This store of energy within the crystals initially presented an issue in safe operation of transporters though joint efforts resulted in a means of bypassing the concern.
